Custom GPTs: planned retirement
On September 11, 2026, OpenAI announced that it plans to retire custom GPTs and offer a way to move them to plugins, which bundle reusable instructions, reference files and connected apps. OpenAI's help centre lists December 11, 2026 as the scheduled retirement date, subject to change, and existing GPTs keep working until then. New GPTs can no longer be created on personal accounts (Free, Go, Plus and Pro). For a reusable assistant today, set up a Project with its own instructions and files (for example, a "Listing Writer" project), and use custom instructions for your everyday voice. If you built a GPT you rely on, save its instructions and a few test prompts now, and watch for the "Migrate to plugin" option under My GPTs. Source: OpenAI Custom GPT retirement and migration FAQ.
What's new
- October 18, 2026: OpenAI upgraded the GPT-6 Pro option in ChatGPT (October 16) with faster answers, better use of plugins and tools, and parallel agents. Several agents can work on separate parts of one job at the same time, such as researching three neighbourhoods for a relocating buyer, and you can open each finished part to see what that agent did. It's rolling out to eligible Pro subscribers. Check each part before you combine and share it.
- October 17, 2026: OpenAI upgraded the ChatGPT extension for Chrome, on every plan. It also works in Edge, Brave and Opera. In Chat it can read your open tabs to answer questions, such as comparing three listing pages or contractor quotes side by side. In Work it can fill in forms, send messages and organize your tabs. Tell it to stop and ask before it submits or sends anything, especially when client details are involved.
- October 17, 2026: ChatGPT Slides is rolling out to eligible Pro, Business and Enterprise users. You can build a deck from a chat, your files or an outline, edit it with teammates, present it from ChatGPT, or export it to PowerPoint, PDF or Google Slides. It's a quick way to draft a buyer seminar or listing presentation deck. Check every number and claim before you present it.
- October 16, 2026: OpenAI is rolling out GPT-Live-1.1 in ChatGPT Voice, with more natural accents and new voices in French, German, Hindi, Japanese, Korean and Mexican Spanish. Choose a voice in Settings > Voice. It's handy for practising a client conversation out loud, but have a fluent speaker check anything you plan to send in another language.
- October 16, 2026: Plus and Pro users no longer have a fixed limit on how many ChatGPT Sites (simple web pages and apps built in a chat) they can create. Usage and storage limits still apply. You could make a separate page for each open house or neighbourhood guide, but review every page before you share it.
- October 15, 2026: OpenAI is rolling out GPT-6 in ChatGPT, paid plans first. Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise get GPT-6 Sol; free and Go users get the lighter GPT-6 Luna.
- October 15, 2026: New 'Intelligent UI': answers can now include interactive charts, diagrams, forms and tappable buttons. Handy for payment comparisons and market snapshots. You can dial the visuals back if you prefer plain text.
- October 15, 2026: Some users report a slower ChatGPT desktop app lately; OpenAI says optimizations are coming. If it lags, the web version at chatgpt.com is a good fallback.
